This is coal tar soap. Because it’s a medicinal bar, this is hot processed so the actives can be added after the lye is consumed.
I made this with tallow, shea butter, Babassu oil, olive oil, and castor oil. I had initially intended to color with activated charcoal, but at last minute added no color because I wanted to see the natural color. It’s kind of odd. It has a good amount of coal tar, colloidal oatmeal, Dead Sea mud, goat milk and is scented with a little orange essential oil, but really, most won’t be able to smell the orange over the coal tar.
This is high temp hot process - the oils are heated to 165° and the lye is added right after mixing (around 200°). The heat increased internally (to about 235°) and this stuff tried to boil right up out of the pot. I think I stirred over an hour.
Julee’s products are always superior in quality! The tooth powder is an absolute necessity for me, and there is no substitute for the crusty drunkard soap, aftershave lotion, and smooth beard oil!
