I love making bath bombs and honestly, I bring my mission right into this bath bomb gig.
First, I color these with FOOD. Not food colorants (which happen to be chemicals), actual food - blue Spirulina, purple carrot, prickly pear juice, hibiscus flowers, matcha tea, turmeric, beets, powdered rose petals, herbs, clays, etc.
Second, they are balanced so the water you’re soaking in isn’t too alkaline nor acidic. The water finishes at a neutral pH.
Third, because the skin absorbs everything put on it, soaking in the foods used as colorants is actually feeding nutrients to the body. No kidding, I’ve got parents making veggie jokes when they buy for their kids.
It’s become obvious to me through talking to people who use my bombs and through reading recipes written by other makers that this idea of balancing to achieve a neutral pH is not always a thought!
Making bombs cheaper by using a higher ratio of baking soda leaves the water alkaline, and making them more “explosive” by adding a higher percentage of citric acid (especially using the cheap GMO citric made from mold) leaves water too acidic.
When I started calculating my recipe, my FIRST thought was “what is the water going to be like to soak in?”
No wonder I have so many people thanking me and buying these things by the dozen. ❤️
prickly pear - includes prickly pear juice, hibiscus flowers, custom scent
lavender - colored with purple sweet potato, includes local lavender and lavender essential oil
lavender honey - includes local honey, local lavender, colored with purple carrot, custom scent
monkey farts - a fruit scent colored with butterfly pea
